It is through Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, I came into contact with Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh. it was from Government Victoria college and in 1967. Though I have studied in v.v.p. high school and Shri Anantha Raman master was my teacher and prominent RSS functionary, I was not in touch with the organization. I used to attend evening Shaka at government Victoria college. Till then I had no contact with RSS and Jansangh workers or leaders. It may seem ironic that I was very much in touch with Mr T.B.K. Menon aka Thankappa Menon eldest son of Kollengode Madhava raja and state president of the Bharatiya jansangh.
In 1968 an evening Shaka was started at the premises of Sri Pudukulangara Bhagvati Temple in marutha road.it was started by Anantha Raman Master and almost all the attendees were CPM supporters. I have attended this Shaka some time.at the same time another evening, Shaka was started at Erattayal at the farm compound of Shri Swaminathan a farmer and CPM supporter who has deserted the party and joined jansangh. Sometimes I was attending this Shaka also. Both the shakas were equidistant for me. At Erattayal Shaka I had college mates like Vishwanathan brother of Swaminathan and Unni Kumaran son of Mariyal Madhavan Nair. Occasionally some school students belonging to manambrakkat house Kanchiram Kunnu also attended the shaka. This Shaka had a physical threat from the nearby CPM-controlled Beedi Workers Union. Swaminathan’s younger brother sekharan who was not a member of the organization was physically attacked and the Shaka had to be closed. The temple Shaka was also fizzled out.
It was Shri Anantha Raman who spread RSS activity in the eastern borders of Palakkad. In Pudussery at the CPM stronghold, an RSS night Shaka was started. He used to visit the Shaka along with Velayudhan, the farmhand of advocate P. Rama Chandra Menon. one night after the Shaka was over, the Swayamsevaks put both of them in the town bus and after its departure went home. It was the last bus to Palakkad from pudussery and passengers were less. on the way, a gang of CPM workers stopped the bus asked the passengers, driver, and conductor to leave the bus, and attacked Mr Anantha Raman with iron crossbars. Mr. Velayudhan gave strong resistance, the attackers asked him to flee but he did not leave and both were attacked till they became unconscious. The goons thought both were dead and left the place. Meanwhile, news spread, and RSS workers reached the spot and took them to Palakkad district hospital. Both outlived the attack on their persons only by the grace of God.
I was not a regular attendee of RSS Shaka but used to attend shakas whenever I got the opportunity. I used to attend special meetings of RSS when leaders like Dattopant Thenkidiji, Yadav Rao Joshi Ji, Jagannath Rao Joshi Ji came to address the meetings.
I have attended shakas at the following places.in Elapully when I went to meet Ashok Mitra And Kishor Bhargava at their house. At Kolavan Mukku In Coyal Mannam along with Ravi of Kannanur, who was my aunt’s elder sister’s son. Ravi introduced me to Rajan Gurukkal who was an active Swayamsevak at Coyal Mannam He also used to train students in kalarippayattu.
Alathur Taluk Karyalayam of RSS was at Perinkulam Gramam. I used to visit there. Gopalji was taluk pracharak. one day when I was taking bath at our village tank Mayan Kulam, he was seen along with another gentleman named Hari. They came to my house and took me to Cheramangalam where there was a shaka. Hari was the son of kunhi Raman nair of Kanoor House, Chera Mangalam. His mother was a teacher and cheramangalam U.P. School was owned by them.
Subsequently, Gopalji was transferred to pattambi Taluk karyalayam. At this time I got an interview call from Employment exchange for temporary teachers post at Chalissery government high school. The day before, I went to pattambi taluk karyalayam and met Gopal Ji there. Shri Guruji Golwalkar was at that time in pattambi at sangha chalk Dr.A.K.varrier’s house. During the night there was a meeting of swayamsevak’s at the doctor’s house and Gopal Ji took me along with him. and so I was able to meet Guruji in person.
After college, I used to stay for some time at marutha road. During this time I used to visit the Bharatiya jansangh office at Big Bazar, Palakkad. There was a small office of Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh opposite to Bharatiya jansangh office. M.V. Sukumaran was Palakkad district secretary of Bharatiya jansangh at that time. I was earlier in touch with him at Ramaneeya ashramam. He introduced me to T. Chandrasekaran, organizing secretary of Palakkad district Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.
At that time Chandra sekharan was organizing Head Load Workers Of Big Bazar and working for registration of their union. He had no assistant and his workload was huge. He requested me to help him with his paperwork and I readily agreed. So I started working with him. it was at this time that clashes took place between workers of the Muslim league union and Sangh workers. They attacked the Bharatiya mazdoor office and killed two Sangh workers. luckily for me at that time, I had gone out for lunch and thus was saved.
Santha chechi (Dr.Shanta Kumari) W/O O Raja Gopal was our family doctor. she used to treat my grandmother. she had a clinic at Pudussery In Madathil Narayan Nair’s House. It was an evening clinic. she used to go for home visits on emergency. My father knew o. Rajagopal while he was a junior to advocate to Krishnan kutty achan. Rajettan was earlier an active worker of Nair Service Society. It was Raman Pillai who introduced him to jansangh and he dedicated his life as a full-timer due to the tragic death of Deen Dayalji. He was having good practice at that time.
I used to visit Rajettan’s house at Harikara Street. He never asked me to be a full-time worker of jansangh. it was k.g.marar who met me at the jansangh office, and because of the proddings of M.V. Sukumaran., K.P.Arumugam. and Mr. Vishwanathan who asked me to become one.it was Santha Chechi who dissuaded me from joining as a full-timer. she knew my family background very well and she used to tell me very often that she will never allow her children to enter politics.
Dr.Prem Kumar, brother-in-law of O.Rajagopal has married the niece of kunisseri Puliyakkotte Gopala Krishnan nair. I have gone with Mr. raja Gopal and Gopal Krishnan nair for fund collection from farmers of kunisseri and erimayur villages. Gopala Krishnan nair had much influence but he was unwilling to enter the political arena.
Anantha Raman Master wanted me to work for RSS and have even tried a job for me at Dhana Lakshmi bank. captain T.B.K.menon asked my willingness to go as a volunteer for Vanavasi Kalyan Ashrama at Dumka, Santal Parghanas In Bihar. His friend Shri Subramanya Bharati from Karnataka was running the ashramam. Later in Patna, I have met this gentleman who was then Organising Secretary Of Vishwa Hindu Parishad for the undivided Bihar. I along with My friend Haridas of Alkem Laboratories and Mr. Sankaran from Hochest Pharmaceuticals have formed the South Indian cell of Vishwa Hindu Parishad and celebrated Thyaga Raja Jayanti. Haridas was an Arya Samajist and follower of Sri Acharya Narendra Bhooshan.
After the BMS incident, I was relocated to kunisseri. my maternal uncles were putting pressure on me to be at kunisseri and help my mother and valiyamma in paddy cultivation. my father also agreed to the idea and thus my political connections were cut short.
